The Bosque Mediterráneo Shawl has something we truly love: it’s lightweight, generous, and beautifully drapey, with a very flattering silhouette when worn. It’s knitted with two needles, and the pattern is designed to enjoy the process as much as the finished piece. One of those shawls that add texture and detail, and that have lots of presence.
I made mine with Merino de la Patagonia Superfine Fingering: a 2-ply yarn with a soft twist that creates a lightweight fabric with beautiful drape and a lovely feel in your hands as you knit. It’s the kind of yarn that follows the rhythm of the design and lets the structure build naturally, without stiffness.
This pattern was the official design for Barcelona Knits 2025, created by Juana Román (Andoliando).
It features three clearly defined sections and an asymmetrical triangular shape, with increases and decreases that “draw” the silhouette as you go. The result feels perfectly balanced: visually interesting and enjoyable to knit, with repetition and little moments that keep you engaged.
The pattern also includes videotutorials, which makes a big difference for knitting with confidence.
At Barcelona Knits, the official design is made in your favorite yarn
One of the loveliest things about the festival is that it invites all exhibitors to put together color palettes so attendees can make the official design using the materials they love most. For this edition, we prepared two color duos in Merino de la Patagonia Superfine Fingering: one dyed with yerba mate, and another with quebracho colorado. Two plants, two moods, two palettes—two ways to bring the same design into a different version.
A meeting we’ll always remember
During the trip, we met with Juana Román and shared the story of HUANACO, the palletes we were bringing to Barcelona Knits, and the small-scale work behind every skein. We also gifted her a version of her own design made by Silvana @tiapepatejidos in a yerba mate–dyed colour combination.Seeing her wear that piece throughout the festival reminded us of something simple: that knitting is also a bridge—a way to carry a little piece of our region into other places.
That meeting deserves its own chapter: in the next post we’ll share the full story of our visit to the Argentine Consulate in Barcelona, and why it was so meaningful for HUANACO.
The yarn: Merino de la Patagonia Superfine Fingering
For this version we chose Merino de la Patagonia Superfine Fingering, dyed with yerba mate.
It’s traceable Patagonian merino wool, sourced from flocks managed under animal welfare and environmental regeneration standards. We spin it in small batches at our wool mill, with a soft twist and two plies that create fluid pieces, with delicate definition and that airy feel that gives the shawl such lovely movement when you wear it.
